Million-Dollar Revamp For Morwell’s CBD

12 September 2018

Morwell’s CBD is set to undergo a streetscape upgrade, courtesy of a $1 million grant from the Andrews Labor Government.

Treasurer Tim Pallas and Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing joined Latrobe City Council Mayor Darrell White to announce the grant today, which will allow work to get underway on the Future Morwell Streetscape Upgrade Project.

The $3.5 million upgrade along Commercial Road will start later this month and transform Morwell CBD into a vibrant and attractive commercial hub.

The Labor Government project is being led by Latrobe City Council and a steering group of community members.

Over the next three years the upgrade will boost the town’s unique identity by repurposing existing open spaces to create a connected commercial hub of cafes, restaurants and businesses.

The project will improve landscaping, upgrade lighting and deliver new trees, garden beds and open spaces – making the business centre greener and more pedestrian-friendly.

The project will deliver a big boost to the local economy – attracting visitors, investment and new businesses to Morwell.

The grant is from the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community Facility Fund and complements a further $2.7 million invested in local community facilities and organisations across Latrobe City, Wellington and Baw Baw Shire Councils.
