Employers operating through the festive season are being urged to keep the safety of their workers top of mind to make sure they return home safe at the end of each day.
While the Christmas and New Year period is a time of relaxation for most Victorians, many workers are required to keep essential services operating. This includes emergency services staff and healthcare workers, who can face long hours and potentially stressful situations as part of their normal duties.
Workers in hospitality and retail also face long and stressful hours as they continue to serve Victorians during the festive season.
It is important that all employers make sure workers have the correct training and supervision to perform their roles, and are allowed adequate breaks.
At this time of year, many workplaces also employ young and inexperienced staff, who need to be encouraged to speak up if they are unsure about how to do something safety.
Victorians are urged to be patient and courteous to workers at all times over the holiday season and to remember that it is never ok to be violent or aggressive towards any worker.
