Major Funding Windfall For 2017 Horsham Cup

27 October 2017

The iconic Horsham Cup is set to receive a major funding injection worth more than $105,000 under a joint investment package supported by the Andrews Labor Government.

The Labor Government is providing more than $47,000 to boost attendance at the event next Friday, 3 November, through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund.

The Horsham & District Racing Club is also contributing more than $34,000, while Country Racing Victoria is providing $8000. Generous residents are also donating more than $16,000 worth of in-kind support in volunteer hours and competition prizes.

Trackside entertainment will include live music from local vocalist and musician Kailee O’Beirne, and the fashion precinct will showcase the Fashions on the Field competition.

Chyloe Kurdas, who was instrumental in the development of the Women’s AFL competition, will headline as a guest speaker at the Ladies Long Lunch event.

Children will be kept amused with a range of sporting games and activities, and complimentary shuttle buses to Horsham’s main street will ensure that patrons can get home safely from the track.

Horsham Cup Day is part of Country Racing Victoria’s Spring Racing Campaign, which covers 51 weekend and feature race meetings across regional Victoria between 23 September and 26 November 2017.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $134,000 to support three infrastructure projects and three feature race meetings at Horsham racecourse, including the 2015 and 2016 Horsham Cups.

The racing industry in the Wimmera region generates more than $37 million annually for the Victorian economy and helps sustain more than 360 full-time equivalent jobs.
