Lotteries Licence Process Gets Underway

30 September 2015

Acting Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation Lisa Neville has today invited companies to make Registrations of Interest (ROI) for Victoria’s next Public Lotteries Licence.

The licence will permit the licence holder to run a range of lotteries in Victoria including drawing numbers from a pool of numbers (such as Powerball) and scratchies.

Registrants are required to provide a range of information that includes evidence of experience of operating a gambling product, key personnel with relevant experience, and evidence of an appropriate organisational structure.

Proposals from each registrant will undergo a comprehensive evaluation. The Minister may then invite selected registrants to proceed to the Invitation to Apply for a Licence stage.

The Registration of Interest Notice can be downloaded at tenders.vic.gov.auExternal Link

The response period closes Thursday 26 November 2015.

“The lotteries licensing process is being undertaken through a rigorous tender process to ensure that the awarding of a new licence will deliver the best deal for all Victorians.”

We are looking far and wide to attract the most suitable candidate to hold this valuable licence which is expected to generate around $4 billion in tax revenue for Victoria over the ten year term of the licence.”

The process is beginning now to allow enough time for a licensee to be appointed well ahead of when the current licence expires in June 2018.
