Mooroopna locals and Shepparton line passengers have had their say on the future of the town’s station, after fire destroyed passenger facilities in January this year.
Acting Minister for Public Transport Luke Donnellan today announced the outcome of the community consultation in early April, with locals wanting the facilities repaired and the significance of the station recognised.
Transport for Victoria and V/Line hosted a local stakeholder session with community leaders, including the City of Greater Shepparton, representatives from the local indigenous community, historical society and other community groups.
V/Line will now commence the procurement of a new shelter and install additional lighting by September this year, after the overwhelming feedback for a heritage-style all-weather shelter at the station.
The shelter will be similar to that at Broadford Station and other stations on the regional network.
The community also wanted to see the historical and indigenous significance of the station recognised, with TfV and V/Line set to work closely with local groups over the coming months to honour the history of the station.
Over the coming months, Transport for Victoria will work with the City of Greater Shepparton to investigate the access to the station including better footpaths and improved connections to the town centre and ‘wayfinding’ to the station.
The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with the job of increasing the number of services and improving the trains for passengers on the Shepparton Line, including those using the service at Mooroopna through the Shepparton Line Upgrade.

“Mooroopna Station has been serving the community for more than a hundred years, which is why we wanted to hear from local residents, groups and passengers about what should happen next.”

“Following the feedback, work will now get underway on making these improvements a reality so locals can have a station facility they can use again.”
