Liberals And Nationals Refuse To Stand By Victorian Farmers

02 February 2017

The Victorian Liberals and Nationals must now decide whether they back Victorian farmers and support a ban on fracking – or are craven to the Sydney-centric Prime Minister.

In an attempt to distract from his own issues, the Prime Minister has criticised the Andrews Labor Government for its decision to ban fracking in Victoria.

We are proud to protect the livelihoods of thousands of Victorian farmers and our world class reputation for their clean and green produce.

We have brought legislation before the Parliament to ban fracking and the extraction of coal seam gas, with debate to resume next week.

It is time for the Victorian Liberals and Nationals to take a stand on this issue of vital importance to our state.

The Liberals and Nationals must answer one question – do they stand with Victorian farmers or do they stand with the Prime Minister for Sydney?

Victoria’s agricultural sector exports $12 billion in food and fibre products each year and employs about 190,000 people.

Farmers wanted this ban and we’re getting it done.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Resources Wade Noonan

“It’s time for the Victorian Liberals and Nationals to take a stand on fracking.”

“Do they support a ban, or do they support the position of the Sydney-centric Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull?”

“Our ban on fracking is what the community wants, it will protect jobs and the world-class reputation of our farmers, and it’s what we will deliver.”

Quotes attributable to Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio

“Queensland exports have tied Australia into the international gas market, which is the key driver of domestic gas prices.”

“Supply isn’t the issue, the Kipper Tuna Turrum project is the largest domestic gas development on the eastern seaboard and holds enough energy to power a city of a million people for 35 years.”
