Learning From Silicon Valley’s Tech Success

13 July 2016

Treasurer Tim Pallas is in Silicon Valley this week, meeting with some of the world’s leading tech giants including IBM, Microsoft and Cisco as part of a study tour of Northern America.

The Treasurer’s first meeting with Cisco included a discussion on digitising Victoria, cyber security for growth, inbound investment, and how Cisco is responding to digital disruption.

Mr Pallas will also meet with Microsoft, IBM and Stanford University to explore integrated digital solutions to help Victoria do business better and more productively.

This will include examining advanced data-science techniques to manage and mitigate economic and financial risks and challenges brought about by emerging technology.

The Andrews Labor Government is ensuring Victoria maintains its competitive edge and maximises its potential.

The Victorian Budget 2016/17 actively supports our competitive advantages and future growth industries including medical technologies, new energy, transport, defence and construction, international education and professional services.

The Victorian economy includes a diverse portfolio of industries in which we already have a competitive advantage, including financial services, tourism, research, health care and agriculture.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) will play a critical role in the ongoing and successful development of these industries in Victoria, as an ever increasing number of devices connect to the internet and the cloud.
