Latrobe Valley Enterprises: Jobs That Change Lives

29 March 2017

The Andrews Labor Government has helped create 24 new full time jobs across the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland through the expansion of a social enterprise employing people with disabilities.

Visiting Latrobe Valley Enterprises in Morwell today, Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan announced a $950,000 expansion of the business to open up further employment opportunities.

Latrobe Valley Enterprises has taken advantage of the Labor Government’s $10 million Latrobe Valley Economic Facilitation Fund – which is growing industries, creating jobs and attracting new investment.

The company is the region’s largest employer of people with a disability – with 90 supported workers and 30 mainstream workers – and offers a range of services including recycling, grounds maintenance and sign making.

Thanks to the Government’s support, the company will improve productivity through new technology, expand operations and upgrade its existing facilities. The project will also help open up opportunities in new markets.

The Latrobe Valley Economic Facilitation Fund has so far helped secure more than $14 million in investment and create 145 jobs.

The Government is also supporting economic growth in the Valley through an unprecedented transition package worth $266 million.

Australia’s first-ever Social Enterprise Strategy – unveiled last month – will strengthen the sector and create more employment opportunities for Victorians who face barriers to employment.
