Land Sales, Jobs Boom At Ballarat West Employment Zone

16 February 2017

In a landmark day for Ballarat, the Andrews Labor Government announced two land purchasers at the Ballarat West Employment Zone and released another parcel of industrial land to meet strong market demand.

The announcements represent a jobs boom for Ballarat with the most recent purchasers, Broo and Athlegen, having the ability to generate significant new jobs and drive economic development in the Ballarat region.

Broo is a rising Australian beer company that plans to establish a world class brewery on its almost 15 hectare site, which is expected to create more than 100 ongoing jobs.

In addition to operating as a brewery, the development will include visitor facilities, which will add to Ballarat’s tourist offering and expand the local visitor economy.

Ballarat manufacturer of medical and physiotherapy equipment, Athlegen, has purchased a 5,400m2 lot to build a production and warehousing facility, a research and development centre, offices and a showroom.

Athlegen requires additional land for expansion as they continue to export to the world and grow their business. Market interest in the industrial land at BWEZ has exceeded all expectations, and the Government is releasing up to an additional 55 hectares of land providing flexible, large lot sizes suitable for industrial and commercial businesses that have the ability to create local jobs.

BWEZ is a $30 million joint initiative between the Victorian Government and the City of Ballarat to support the region’s economic growth over the next 20 years.

The project is unlocking industrial land to attract large-scale businesses to Ballarat, which will build on the region’s existing strengths and also help boost the local economy.
