The Andrews Labor Government will help Koo Wee Rup’s football and netball clubs grow their ranks and be more competitive thanks to a major upgrade of both home ground pavilions.
Minister for Sport John Eren visited Koo Wee Rup Recreation Reserve today to announce $800,000 to bring the grounds sports facilities into the modern era.
The Demons are feared on the netball court and footy oval, with the men’s footy team hot favourites for the flag and the first women’s team hitting the oval this year.
However, both the netball and football pavilions have seen better days, restricting the club’s ability to train and prepare for the big games.
The football pavilion will be transformed with new female change rooms, while the netball pavilion will be expanded, including upgrades to change rooms and bathrooms across the reserve.
The project is funded through the Labor Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, which is transforming tired and outdated facilities at suburban and regional grounds to get more Victorians active.
The upgrades are part of a $241.6 million boost for community sport in the Victorian Budget 2018/19, with more than $100 million to improve facilities and access for women – including a $15 million boost for the Female Friendly Facilities Fund.
This comes on top of a further $60 million for community sporting grants and $5 million for Community Sports Infrastructure Loans, which will unlock up to $100 million to upgrade local facilities.
