The Andrews Labor Government has welcomed changes to the 2016 Formula 1® calendar announced overnight by the World Motor Sport Council.
The updated provisional calendar now lists the Melbourne event for March 17 – 20, two weeks earlier than first planned. The date change means the internationally renowned event will pose less of a disruption to local sporting clubs.
The date change still leaves the race as the first of the Formula 1® calendar.
The Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is one of the world’s most high profile sporting events. Thousands of visitors from all over the world flock to Victoria to see the race for themselves, and many millions more tune in around the globe.
