Labor Government Investing In VET Teacher Quality

27 June 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is supporting Victorian Vocational Education and Training (VET) teachers through Trainer and Assessor Academic Grants.

The new grants are part of a $1 million initiative to support high quality teachers in the Victorian Government funded training system.

The initiative follows last year’s Review of Quality Assurance in Victoria’s VET System.

Fifteen trainers from across the state will each receive up to $8,000 towards a diploma or higher education qualification in VET Training and Assessment:

  • Bianca Rohlje, Melbourne
  • Christina Evans, Preston
  • David Hermans, Warrnambool
  • Deon Valentine, Ringwood
  • Filipa Withers, Myrtleford
  • Fred Couper, Traralgon
  • Godefa Berhane G'her, Broadmeadows
  • Jenny Vibert, Wodonga
  • Joanna Boyd, St. Albans
  • Joanne Heeps, Wodonga
  • Justine Rofe, Wodonga
  • Lucinda McCook, Melbourne
  • Megan Turner, Dandenong
  • Sharon Naldrett, Wodonga
  • Stephen Rando, Footscray

They will also receive workplace coaching and mentoring, and participate in activities run by the VET Development Centre.

The successful VET teachers and trainers come from TAFEs and private training organisations and are from across the state, including four from Wodonga Institute of TAFE.

As well as the academic grants, the Labor Government is undertaking a number of other initiatives to boost VET teacher quality.

This includes Putting students first: delivering suitable and appropriate training workshops and webinars, which are being delivered in Melbourne and regional centres, and have already been attended by 770 teachers.

In addition, a new scholarship scheme will soon open for trainers working in the VTG funded sector to help them study the Diploma of Training and Assessment.
