Labor Government Goes In To Bat For Frankston Cricket Clubs

17 March 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with the job of upgrading grassroots cricket facilities for clubs at Frankston and Carrum.

Minister for Sport John Eren today joined Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke and Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny at Jubilee Park, one of 17 locations across the state sharing in $1.35 million funding for facility upgrades.

New cricket nets at Jubilee Park and RF Miles Reserve will give the 200 players that play at the Frankston Peninsula and Seaford Cricket Clubs new opportunities to train and develop their skills with bat and ball.

The $330,000 project includes upgraded turf and synthetic training pitches at Jubilee Park, and a new four-lane synthetic net facility at RF Miles Reserve. The upgrades are being delivered in partnership with Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia.

The Labor Government is giving Victoria’s grassroots cricket clubs the facilities and infrastructure they need to help maintain Victoria’s title as Australia’s cricket capital.

The $12.4 million Community Cricket Program: On Common Ground is creating renewed opportunities for all Victorians to enjoy Australia’s national summer pastime.

All Victorians deserve safe, modern sporting facilities, and that’s what the Labor Government is delivering – with the $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund giving communities across the state opportunities to update tired grounds and build the facilities they need.

More than 320,000 Victorians play a form of cricket. That’s why the Labor Government is helping grow the game with $25 million towards building the Victorian Cricket and Community Centre at Junction Oval, to give our First Class cricketers the home they deserve.
