The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with building the Victorian Cricket and Community Centre by delivering on its commitment to begin works by the end of 2015.
Minister for Sport John Eren today joined Member for Albert Park Martin Foley at Junction Oval, where early works inside the Blackie Ironmonger Stand have begun.
The Labor Government is giving Victoria’s star cricketers the high performance home they deserve, and promised construction would begin this year. Today’s beginning of demolition works delivers on that commitment.
The Labor Government’s $25 million commitment includes an additional ICC-compliant first-class ground for Melbourne. The new Junction Oval will include administrative areas, a base for Victoria Spirit, and the very latest medical and rehabilitation facilities.
Mr Eren also announced Cockram Construction would lead the early works stage of the redevelopment. The leading company boasts an impressive portfolio, including the installation of cutting-edge lighting at the MCG and the Aqualink Box Hill Redevelopment.
Cricket is Australia’s national summer pastime, and our best players deserve the best facilities. The Junction Oval upgrade is being funded in partnership with Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia.
