Labor Government Brings Broadmeadows Heart To Life

04 April 2016

Minister for Planning Richard Wynne and Member for Broadmeadows Frank McGuire have announced a $14.3 million package to revitalise the heart of Broadmeadows, create new jobs and attract investment.

Public consultation will begin at the Broadmeadows Street Festival on April 3, where the public can learn more about the way the Andrews Labor Government is strengthening Broadmeadows as an activity centre.

The $14.3 million will:

  • Contribute $7m towards the $20.2 million refurbishment of the Broadmeadows Town Hall, transforming the historic building into a space for start-ups and community groups.
  • Improve the access and amenity of the Broadmeadows railway station with $4m to be invested in a new station northern entrance, concourse and toilets, and partial pedestrian subway upgrade.
  • Create a new boulevard along Pascoe Vale Road with $1 million for tree planting and improved crossings
  • A further $2.1m to help complete Meadowlink, the 3.2km bicycle, pedestrian and open space link that connects the Moonee Ponds and Merlynston Creeks together via the existing town centre.

Broadmeadows is just 15 kilometres from the CBD in the centre of Melbourne’s rapidly growing northern corridor, and its excellent transport links and tracts of undeveloped land mean it is ripe for more investment.

The Metropolitan Planning Authority and Hume City Council will be talking to the community and businesses about ways to attract more jobs and investment to the area, improve local amenity and provide greater public and private housing options.
