Labor Government and Jetstar Helping Avalon Airport Grow

07 December 2015

Jetstar’s latest expansion of services at Avalon Airport is another vote of confidence in Victoria’s visitor economy and a boost to local jobs.

Jetstar today announced new services to Adelaide and Hobart will begin in 2016, taking the total number of Australian cities Avalon services to four.

Jetstar’s announcement comes just months after the Andrews Labor Government secured a landmark ten-year partnership that prevented the airport from having to cease passenger services, saving local jobs and creating new opportunities for tourism operators.

The airline will offer three weekly flights to Adelaide and four to Hobart from March, complementing the daily flights Jetstar already operates between Avalon and Sydney, and Avalon and the Gold Coast.

In total, Jetstar will be offering more than 900,000 seats to and from Avalon Airport annually.

Avalon Airport is only a short drive from Melbourne, and it’s on the cusp of one of Victoria’s great tourism hot spots. More visitors to the region mean added patronage for local cafes and hotels, busier events and stronger local economies.

Jetstar’s announcement means more tourists from more cities will have easy access to the great events and attractions in Melbourne, Geelong and the Bellarine, including the International Airshow at Avalon Airport.
