Labor is ensuring homes are built close to public transport, open spaces and local schools.
More than 850 new homes in Richmond and Cremorne have now been given the green light.
The former Harry the Hirer site in Richmond will provide 687 properties across four buildings ranging from 8 to 18 storeys and includes 10 per cent affordable housing.
It will feature a variety of one, two and three bedroom homes, along with new commercial and retail spaces.
Extensive bicycle parking facilities will be also installed, making it easier for people to get around.
The project includes two new publicly accessible pedestrian links and more public open space, with permit conditions requiring an upgrade to the busy Burnley Street intersection before the project is completed.
A 14-storey development along Swan Street in Cremorne has also been approved, delivering 165 new homes.
The development will preserve the historic Swan Street frontage and deliver one, two, and three-bedroom apartments.
Residents will enjoy communal indoor and outdoor spaces, along with a rooftop terrace with views of the city and MCG.
Both developments are close to trams and trains, providing convenient connections to the MCG, jobs, schools and Melbourne’s CBD.
The projects were approved through Labor’s Development Facilitation Program which has brought approval times down to just four months – 10 months faster than council processes and fast tracking more than 12,000 homes.
The Liberals have promised to rip up the Development Facilitation Program, which will block young people from entering the housing market.
