From Parkdale to Clarinda, 10 sports venues in the City of Kingston can look forward to more action day and night as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Lighting Up Kingston initiative.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence joined Member for Mordialloc Tim Richardson, City of Kingston councillors and sporting club representatives at Parkdale Bowls Club today to launch construction on new lighting projects made possible by $2.5 million from the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.
Works are underway to install brighter lights at Parkdale Bowls Club, Edithvale Baseball Field, Keeley Park Oval, Bonbeach Reserve, GR Bricker Reserve, Highett Reserve, Doug Denyer Reserve, Kingston Heath Hockey, Clarinda Tennis Club and Heatherton Reserve.
From lawn bowls to hockey, cricket and tennis, the City of Kingston is one of Melbourne’s booming sporting areas and home to several clubs that are currently limited to daylight training and competition due to poor venue lighting.
Once complete, the upgraded lighting will provide more opportunities for clubs to host after-hours training and development programs as well as twilight competition.
The lighting upgrade projects are employing more than 15 people and are due to be complete by September 2022.
The Lighting Up Kingston project is one of 27 to benefit from a share of $68 million from the first round of the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program with the Labor Government injecting an additional $110 million into the program in the last Budget.
This investment recognises the strong demand for new sports infrastructure across Victoria and is part of the Government’s $1.05 billion investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014.
