Keeping Kids Safe Around Our Schools

29 October 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is improving safety at dozens of schools across the state, installing safer electronic speed signs to keep students, parents and teachers safe.

Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan visited Alfredton Primary School today, to announce the next round of schools to receive upgrades under the $5 million School Road Safety package.

Electronic speed signs will be installed along Cuthberts Road in Alfredton, boosting safety outside Alfredton Primary School and St Thomas More Primary School, while similar signage will also be installed on Forest Street outside Ballarat Grammar School and outside of Dana Street Primary School.

The signs will highlight the speed limit during school times to help address safety concerns of the school community for students, families and teachers.

Other schools across the state set to receive upgrades include Inverloch/Kongwak Primary School, Newhaven College, Melton Specialist School and Melton West Primary School.

They follow upgrades announced earlier this year for Bass Valley Primary School, Kallista Primary School, St Mary’s Primary School in Lancefield and Christ Our Holy Redeemer Primary School in Oakleigh.

These improvements are being delivered under the Labor Government’s $5 million school road safety package, aimed at improving high-risk roads near local schools.

This road safety package was announced in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 and delivers upgrades, crossing improvements and electronic speed limit signs across Victorian school zones.
