Joining Daniher’s Drive To Help Cure Motor Neuron Disease

03 September 2015

The Andrews Labor Government is proud to support Daniher’s Drive and the Cure for Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Foundation, in the hope of one day finding a cure.

Premier Daniel Andrews today joined Neale Daniher at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health to raise awareness and encourage donations to the Foundation. The Labor Government has contributed $150,000.

The Daniher’s Drive initiative will include 50 teams taking part in a drive around Victoria, including many of Neale’s family and his past football team mates and players.

This fantastic initiative will take place over four days, from the 15th of October, raising much needed awareness for Motor Neurone Disease.

Neale’s advocacy has taken public awareness about MND to new heights - through the ‘Big Freeze at the G’ in June and last year’s world record achievement at Etihad Stadium for the most people simultaneously taking the ‘ice bucket challenge’.

All of the money raised by Daniher’s Drive will go to the Foundation to help support people with MND, and research institutions like the Florey Institute. The Foundation was established by Dr Ian Davis in 2014 and raised over $400,000 last year.

1,900 Australians suffer from MND - that’s about five in every 100,000. The disease has no known treatment or cure.
