Jobs Victoria Helps 2,000 Victorians On A New Path

06 October 2017

The Andrews Labor Government has helped more than 2,000 Victorian jobseekers find stable employment in the first 12 months of the flagship Jobs Victoria program.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Natalie Hutchins today celebrated the milestone with Jobs Victoria participants and partners from the Aboriginal communities in Thornbury including specialist employment provider RAW Recruitment.

Some of those involved in Jobs Victoria, are now celebrating more than a year of secure employment.

The Labor Government invested $68 million in Jobs Victoria to provide tailored support services to jobseekers who are struggling to find a job and need extra support.

The program has a goal of placing more than 5,000 long-term jobseekers into meaningful work.

Working with a range of partner organisations, Jobs Victoria is ensuring no Victorian gets left behind.

RAW Recruitment exceeded their original target of placing 60 jobseekers into jobs and received additional funding to place a further 50 participants. To date RAW Recruitment has placed 86 jobseekers into employment under Jobs Victoria.

Jobs Victoria and partner organisation RAW Recruitment have also helped link Aboriginal Victorians with opportunities to work on level crossing removals and other government projects.

Projects such as the Metro Tunnel, Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project and Hurstbridge Line Upgrade have a 2.5 per cent Aboriginal employment target, and are covered by the Major Projects Skills Guarantee.

The Major Projects Skills Guarantee mandates that 10 per cent of work on all major projects is undertaken by apprentices, trainees and engineering cadets.
