Improving Kindergartens In The Education State

03 August 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is helping kinders all over Victoria upgrade facilities and offer better services for families and children.

Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos today visited Templestowe Preschool to announce $1.22 million in grants to nearly 250 kindergartens to help give every child a great early childhood education.

The Labor Government is making Victoria the Education State, and this begins with giving every child the best start in life. Kindergartens are where kids learn valuable social and learning skills, and enjoy special memories that stay with them for life.

Templestowe Preschool is one of nearly 80 kindergartens receiving grants of up to $10,000 for refurbishments and playground upgrades, with a special emphasis on all-abilities access. The grant will help Templestowe Preschool build a ramp to improve accessibility for all children. A new sandpit is also planned.

The Labor Government is providing 19 kindergartens grants of up to $25,000 to expand their playrooms. We’re giving kindergartens the flexibility and help they need to accommodate new and improved educator-to-childhood ratios.

We are also delivering grants of up to $1,500 to 139 kindergartens all over Victoria for new desktop computers, laptops, tablets or televisions. It’s our way of ensuring Victoria’s children are better equipped to learn in the digital age.

The grants are part of the Labor Government’s $60 million investment in early childhood infrastructure, which is giving children the best opportunity to enjoy a great education.
