Huge Boost To Child Protection Workforce

20 May 2015

A campaign to recruit more than 110 new child protection workers begins this week, Minister for Families and Children, Jenny Mikakos, announced today.

While addressing social work and welfare students at RMIT University, Ms Mikakos said the Andrews Labor Government’s recent Victorian Budget 2015-2016 provided a huge funding boost to the child protection workforce.

The Labor Government is investing $283 million over four years in programs and services for vulnerable Victorian children and families.

Ms Mikakos was joined by Tracy Beaton, Victoria’s Chief Practitioner for Human Services, in a meeting with the students and encouraged them to take up a career in the Department of Health & Human Services’ child protection workforce.

A career in child protection offers the opportunity to have a direct, positive and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children and their families.

The recruitment campaign, Rewrite Tomorrow, One Child at a Time, will see advertisements placed in the major Victorian newspapers on Saturday.

The campaign will employ and support new graduates to enter the child protection workforce, as well as those with senior level skills and experience.

Relevant qualifications include social work, psychology and welfare degrees and recognised Diplomas of Community Services. Those with experience working in mental health, education, allied health and the broader community sector may also apply.
