Honouring Victoria’s heroes

02 May 2017

The Andrews Labor Government will honour Victoria’s heroes with a boost to the Shrine of Remembrance, and the job support our veterans need after serving our nation.

The Victorian Budget 2017/18 will invest a record $2.8 million boost over four years to help the Shrine deliver the very best programs that teach our students Victoria’s proud wartime history and the sacrifices made by our veterans.

The funding will also support the ongoing development of the Galleries of Remembrance, and the running of commemorative and ceremonial activities for the wider community.

More than 1 million people visited the iconic landmark last year, and we’re giving the Shrine the support they need to attract even more visitors and educate more Victorians than ever before.

Up to 250 young veterans will also benefit from the Budget with funding to help them transition back to civilian life and find jobs in the public sector.

The Labor Government’s Public Sector Veterans Employment Strategy – a key part of our response to the Victorian Veterans Sector Study Report 2015 – is working to safeguard the welfare of our veterans and better understand the needs of our ex-servicemen and women.

An online platform will be explored to assist Victorian veterans to access the services they need, from job application advice to tracking the number of veterans applying for and securing positions.
