Helping Bendigo Manufacturers Grow And Create Jobs

21 March 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is advancing manufacturing in Bendigo by helping local businesses grow, innovate and create jobs.

Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll joined Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards at Australian Turntables to announce the new Bendigo Manufacturing Cluster - part of a $5 million state-wide initiative to create jobs and help regional manufacturers grow.

The initiative will give local manufacturers access to programs that boost productivity and competitiveness, and help them embrace innovation, adopt new skills and develop trade and supply chain opportunities.

Australian Turntables make world-class turntables for construction, mining and public use infrastructure projects – including for the world’s largest revolving restaurant in Iran.

The program will harness the existing strengths of the region and connect businesses with manufacturing networks and local organisations.

The initiative will be delivered by the Labor Government, in partnership with the Australian Industry Group, and will be overseen by a committee made up of relevant local stakeholders.

There are more than 500 manufacturing businesses in the Bendigo region, employing more than 9,000 people.

The Labor Government has already committed over $110 million in manufacturing support, creating over 4,000 jobs and driving more than $1.4 billion in private investment across the State.

Australian Industry Group figures show that Victoria’s Performance of Manufacturing Index has grown for 13 consecutive months, the longest run of expansion for over 14 years.
