Help Shape Our Sports And Entertainment Venues

29 November 2016

Victorians have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to help shape the future of our world-class sports and entertainment venues.

Minister for Sport John Eren announced today all Victorians have a unique opportunity to put forward their ideas for the stadiums and arenas that make Victoria the sports and events capital of the world.

The Andrews Labor Government’s Major Sporting Stadia Strategy will examine what we have today and what we need tomorrow to ensure Victoria remains the home for the biggest and the best events.

A Ministerial Working Group chaired by Premier Daniel Andrews will develop the strategy by next year.

We’ll be putting people first and listening to sports and stadium industry experts, major event organisers and national sports organisations as we draw up a blueprint for what the sporting capital of the world will look like in years to come.

Victoria already boasts a suite of stadiums and arenas other cities can only dream of, but we’ll never be complacent. Organisers of the big sport, art and cultural events have us at the top of their lists – and with good reason.

Melbourne was crowned the Sport Business Ultimate Sport City of the Decade at the 10 Year Anniversary Awards in Switzerland. We claimed the Best Venues category too.

The Labor Government is already taking action to grow Victoria’s stadiums. Our $338 million State Two redevelopment of Melbourne Park is under way, and we’re upgrading Simonds Stadium, Eureka Stadium and Junction Oval.

Victorians wanting to have a say on the strategy can do so by visiting www.engage.vic.gov.auExternal Link by the end of the year.
