Heidelberg Sports Set To Soar Under Brighter Lights

27 September 2018

The Heidelberg West Hawks football and cricket clubs and the Heidelberg Tigers Junior Football Club will soon be showcasing their skills under brighter lights thanks to $150,000 from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Sport John Eren today joined club members at Heidelberg Park to announce the Community sports Infrastructure Fund grant will go towards new lighting at the popular sports hub.

Aussie rules football is more popular than ever with thousands of participants state-wide each week, that’s why the Labor Government is getting on with delivering the accessible, safe and modern facilities our growing communities deserve.

The current dim lights have meant shorter training times, overuse of certain sections of the ground and less opportunity for the clubs’ male and female teams to utilise the whole ground safely, especially during twilight training.

Once complete, the new brighter LED lights will provide more reach across the oval and ground time for teams to train and play.

This project is one of over 90 to score a boost from the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund that recently received a $60 million boost in the Victorian Budget 2018/19.

Across Victoria the Labor Government has invested more than $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities, and earlier this year we provided almost half a billion dollars in the Victorian Budget to support sport and active recreation at all levels.

Mr Eren acknowledged the Banyule City Council for its commitment to the project and $150,000 contribution.
