Have Your Say On A Better Multi Purpose Taxi Program

29 September 2015

Consultation is now open for the Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) Review, Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan announced today.

The Multi Purpose Taxi Program supports the transport needs of Victorians with a disability and limited mobility by paying half the cost of taxi fares.

Over four million taxi journeys were supported by the MPTP in 2013-14, with nearly one in four of these being made by wheelchair users.

Speaking at the 2015 State Taxi Conference this morning, Minister Allan said the review was about improving travel choice and affordability for people with limited mobility.

To help guide consultation, a discussion paper has been prepared outlining ideas to broaden travel options for Victorians with limited mobility.

As part of the consultation process, a series of workshops will be held across Victoria with program users, disability advocacy groups, and the taxi and hire car industry.

Stakeholders from metropolitan and regional Victoria will also have a chance to provide their feedback by making a formal submission, completing an online survey or by calling the project team.
