The transformation of the Hampton Station Precinct is one step closer today with the appointment of epc.Pacific as the project’s development partner.
Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, said the project would make better use of the land around Hampton Station – making it safer, more attractive and more accessible for commuters and the local community.
Part of the proceeds from the development will fund transport improvements, which could include station upgrades, the creation of a station forecourt and public plaza, an improved bus interchange and a new commuter car parking facility.
A section of the site is also owned by the Director of Housing, with some of the development proceeds funding improvements to public housing in the area.
Last year VicTrack, in collaboration with Bayside City Council, spoke to local residents and commuters about their vision for the future of the Hampton Station Precinct. The community emphasised that the precinct should be integrated with the Hampton Street shops, include high-quality housing, and make it safer and easier to get to the station.
VicTrack and the Director of Housing appointed epc.Pacific as its development partner because it could deliver on this vision and create a modern, safe and accessible ‘urban village’ around the station.
Community consultation will continue later this year, with local residents provided the opportunity to comment on the preliminary designs for the station precinct.
