Government Accepts Ombudsman’s Recommendations

12 September 2016

The Andrews Labor Government and WorkSafe have today accepted all recommendations outlined in the Victorian Ombudsman’s report into the management of injured workers compensation claims.

The findings in the report are deeply concerning. It’s unacceptable that injured workers did not get the support or respect they deserved.

WorkSafe has already begun taking steps to address the issues raised, including looking at alternative dispute resolution systems and bolstering resources to identify and improve systemic issues.

It’s clear more work needs to be done.

I have met with the CEO of WorkSafe, who advised me that WorkSafe accepts the Ombudsman’s recommendations and is currently working to implement them.

I have requested WorkSafe to outline how it will implement the Ombudsman’s recommendations and include this in its 2015-16 Annual Report, to be tabled in Parliament next month.

The Government is working to ensure injured Victorians workers are treated fairly and getting the support they need.
