Good Cycles Peddle A Wheelie-Good Cause

17 May 2017

A Docklands social enterprise which specialises in bicycle retail and repair services is finding sustainable employment for Victorians who face barriers to work.

Visiting Good Cycles today, Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan congratulated the organisation on assisting some of the most vulnerable Victorians.

Good Cycles uses the profits from its bicycle shop, maintenance courses, and servicing business to support social programs for Victorians from backgrounds of disadvantage.

These include at-risk young people, the long-term unemployed and those who have emigrated to Australia.

Good Cycles provides work experience and employment opportunities to people participating in its programs and long-term employment opportunities through its industry networks.

The Andrews Labor Government has invested an unprecedented $10.8 million in Victoria’s social enterprise sector to help businesses grow, create new jobs and put more disadvantaged Victorians into work.

That funding will be used to implement Victoria’s first Social Enterprise Strategy.

Victoria is home to Australia’s largest collection of social enterprises – with 5,000 businesses employing around 75,000 Victorians.
