The community of Gisborne is set to have its retail precinct transformed, with an Andrews Labor Government funding boost to create attractive and accessible outdoor spaces for residents and visitors.
Treasurer Tim Pallas was in Gisborne today to announce the Labor Government’s $200,000 investment in the project, which will revitalise the commercial heart of the town.
The project will focus on vital infrastructure upgrades including:
- New street furniture to encourage visitors to stay and enjoy the area for longer
- Landscaping works to enhance the attractiveness and amenity of the streetscape
- Accessible foot paths to increase foot traffic
- Drainage works to ensure safe pedestrian access
The project will also provide commercial opportunities for local retailers by encouraging residents and visitors to make better use of the town’s services and businesses – currently underused due to ageing infrastructure.
REMPLAN modelling suggests the project is set to inject $737,000 into the local economy, create 12 new jobs during construction and support two ongoing jobs after completion.
The Labor Government is working in partnership with the Macedon Ranges Shire Council and the Gisborne Region Events Activities and Tourism Association to deliver the project, in close consultation with the local community.
Gisborne is in an urban growth corridor and has experienced rapid population growth in recent years. The growing demand for services and accessible public spaces make infrastructure upgrades vital to ensuring the continued liveability and economic growth of the town.
Through the Labor Government’s $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, the Government is investing in projects like the Gisborne Retail Precinct Rejuvenation project to drive economic growth, create jobs, and make regional Victorian towns an even better place to live, work and visit.
