Getting It Done For Woodend Footballers And Netballers

10 May 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is getting it done for the Woodend-Hesket Football Netball Club by building new lights at Gilbert Gordon Oval.

Minister for Sport John Eren joined Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas at the Hawks’ home ground today, where the Labor Government is providing $100,000 for AFL-standard competition lighting for footballers and new floodlights for netballers.

We’re listening to local clubs like Woodend-Hesket, who say they need better lighting so that they can stage more training sessions for the growing number of players turning to grassroots sport.

The Labor Government’s Country Football Netball Program is helping clubs all over regional Victoria build the facilities they need, install lights or complete ground or court resurfacing.

Labor launched the program in 2005, because everyone deserves equal facilities. Since then, more than $22 million has been spent delivering 435 projects.

Regional Victoria is home to some of our biggest football and netball clubs – and our most decorated stars.

Household names like Tony Lockett, Joel Selwood, Sharelle McMahon and Madi Robinson all learnt their trades in the regions.

The Victorian Budget 2016/17 includes an $8 million boost to the Country Football Netball Program. We’re also investing $22 million towards a Better Indoor Stadiums Fund, to build the venues where more than 450,000 Victorians play sports like basketball or netball each week.

The Gilbert Gordon Oval is being funded in partnership with the Macedon Ranges Shire Council and the Woodend Hesket Football Netball Club.
