St Peters Junior Football Club and Bentleigh Uniting Cricket Club will be able to open their doors to more players thanks to $165,000 in funding from the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Sport John Eren today announced new lighting will be installed on the main oval at Centenary Park in Bentleigh East thanks to funding from the Labor Government’s Female Friendly Facilities Fund.
The park has two ovals but recent audits found the lighting levels were only 20 Lux, well below the recommended 50 Lux level for training, and nowhere near the 150 Lux required for night competition.
The poor lighting has limited the capacity of the football club to train and play, particularly for the growing women’s football league.
This funding is part of the Labor Government’s strong commitment to sports and active recreation, and to encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.
Across Victoria we've invested more than $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities, and earlier this year provided almost half a billion dollars in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to support sport and active recreation at all levels.
Mr Eren acknowledged Glen Eira City Council and AFL Victoria for their commitment and financial contribution to the project.
