Full Forward For Women’s Health In The West

15 June 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is partnering with the Western Bulldogs Football Club to kick new goals for women’s health in Melbourne’s west.

Speaking at the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation Fundraising Dinner last night, Minister for Health Jill Hennessy announced a $600,000 grant to expand the successful Sons of the West health program to include women under the banner of Daughters of the West.

Sons of the West supports men to lead healthier lives through local activities that encourage them to be more active, eat healthily, reduce smoking and alcohol consumption, and strengthen social connections.

The program is run by the Western Bulldogs in partnership with a range of sponsors, and has been so successful it was expanded into Sunbury, Maryborough and Smythesdale earlier this year.

The new Daughters of the West program builds on this effective model, bringing women from Ballarat, Melton, Maribyrnong and Wyndham together to support each other and lead healthier lifestyles.

The program has been designed by local women and includes activities across Melbourne’s west, with added incentives like match day experiences with the premiership winning Doggies to provide that extra bit of encouragement.

The Bulldogs have been a driving force in supporting families in Melbourne’s west to live better, eat better and lead healthier lives, and this new initiative will continue to build on this important work.
