Free Nursing Service Providing Supercare In Ballarat

02 September 2016

A free nursing service is now available every night at the Andrews Labor Government’s first five Supercare Pharmacies, for face-to-face health advice and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.

Minister for Health, Jill Hennessy, Member for Buninyong Geoff Howard and Member for Wendouree Sharon Knight today visited Victoria’s first regional Supercare Pharmacy at UFS Dispensaries, Ballarat.

The pharmacy on Sturt Street is now open around the clock providing easy access to pharmacists for advice, supply of medicines and dispensing of prescriptions.

The UFS Dispensaries Supercare Pharmacy will give Ballarat families better access to important health advice and treatment, when they need it, closer to home.

Following the completion of minor building works to construct appropriate consulting rooms, a free nursing service is now available every night from 6pm to 10pm at Victoria’s first five Supercare Pharmacies, located in:

  • Ascot Vale, Ascot Vale Pharmacy
  • Yarraville, Carnovale Pharmacy
  • Craigieburn, Amcal Pharmacy Craigieburn
  • Wantirna South, Pharmacy@Knox
  • Ballarat, UFS Dispensaries.

Supercare Pharmacy nurses are available for free, face-to-face health advice and treatment for minor injuries or illnesses such as wound management, physical assessment, flu and whooping cough immunisations, health screenings, sexual health advice and referrals to other services in the area.

We are delivering on a key election promise with $28.7 million to open 20 Supercare Pharmacies across Victoria by 2018. Five will be located in regional Victoria.

Supercare Pharmacies provide another option for healthcare out of hours. While they are designed to relieve pressure from hospitals, the community pharmacy does not replace doctors or emergency departments and ambulances should still be the first port of call for medical emergencies.
