First Sod Turned On New Melton Health And Community Services Facility

10 February 2017

Melton residents will soon have easier access to the vital community health, mental health and family services they need – all under one roof – with construction starting on the Melton Health and Community Services facility.

Minister for Health Jill Hennessy today joined Member for Melton Don Nardella to turn the first sod on construction works for the new $21 million health hub on Barries Road.

‘Health hubs’ are an innovative new model to deliver high quality and timely health services for Melbourne’s booming growth areas by integrating a range of community health and welfare services under one roof.

The hubs will be a one-stop-shop that will support community-based organisations to work collaboratively together, while also making health and wellbeing services easier to access for clients.

In Melton, this hub will bring together services from Djerriwarrh Health Services, Melbourne Health-Midwest Area Mental Health Service, MacKillop Family Services, cohealth and Odyssey House Victoria.

These organisations will work together and deliver a broad range of services such as women’s, children’s and family services, Aboriginal health, chronic disease prevention and early intervention, mental health and alcohol and drug services.

The facility will feature consulting rooms, group rooms, a gym, training and assessment kitchen, staff work areas and a mental health tribunal room. It is expected to open to clients in April 2018.

In 2016/17, Djerriwarrh Health Services will receive $44.97 million in funding from the Labor Government, which is $2.5 million or six per cent more than the previous financial year.

We are also providing $10.6 million to expand and refurbish maternity and surgical services at Djerriwarrh Health Services.
