Financial Boost For New Women’s Homelessness Hub

01 August 2016

Victoria’s first purpose-built accommodation and support hub for women who are homeless will receive a $4 million boost thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley made the announcement today at the eighth birthday celebrations of McAuley Community Services for Women.

McAuley Community Services for Women has established itself as a provider of quality accommodation services to women experiencing homelessness and family violence.

The funding will enable McAuley to build 25 self-contained units in Footscray providing safe, medium-term accommodation for women. Staffed 24-hours a day, the hub will provide links to health programs, employment services and other supports.

This investment is part of the Labor Government’s $152 million housing response to the findings of the Royal Commission into Family Violence. The response enables a much needed expansion of the services required to provide women in need with safe, welcoming accommodation and support.

Additional support will also be provided to help the organisation’s work in assisting women with no permanent residency status.
