Final Consultation Phase For Aboriginal Action Plan

13 July 2016

The final phase of consultation for the Victorian Aboriginal Local Government Action Plan is set to begin.

The plan aims to help councils and Aboriginal communities work together to improve engagement, partnership and employment opportunities.

One initiative already underway is the Maggolee website, which provides information on how each council engages with the Aboriginal community, as well as information on local Traditional Owners and Aboriginal organisations, key contacts, demographic data and services.

The Action Plan will build on that and provide a resource for councils and Aboriginal Victorians to strengthen their relationships and create positive change.

The Andrews Labor Government developed the draft plan with the Municipal Association of Victoria, Aboriginal Victoria and Reconciliation Victoria.

Consultation on the draft Action Plan will now be open for six weeks. For more information or to provide your feedback visit www.localgovernment.vic.gov.auExternal Link

Quotes attributable to Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal Affairs Natalie Hutchins

“This Action Plan will be a blueprint for how local government and Aboriginal communities from across Victoria can best work together.”

“The Andrews Labor Government is working to help to create stronger outcomes for the Aboriginal community.”
