Faster, Better Emergency Care With New Diamond Creek Ambulance Station

18 October 2016

The Andrews Labor Government will build a new state-of-the-art, stand-alone ambulance station in Diamond Creek to give paramedics the facilities they need to quickly respond to local medical emergencies.

Minister for Ambulance Services, Jill Hennessy, today joined Member for Yan Yean, Danielle Green, and Member for Eltham, Vicki Ward, to announce $2.5 million to build a new 24-hour ambulance station in Diamond Creek to give paramedics the facilities they need to improve ambulance response times in the North-Eastern suburbs.

The current Diamond Creek ambulance station is part of an emergency services complex with Ambulance Victoria, the Country Fire Authority and Victoria Police.

The ambulance station, currently home to 32 paramedics, is located between the two agencies and unable to grow due to the constrained site.

A new separated, larger and purpose-built station will be built on a new site and will feature rest and recline areas, training rooms, bedrooms, modern amenities and a fully fitted out kitchen.

It will include capacity for additional crews to meet future population growth, and will be upgraded from a Peak Period Unit to 24-hour coverage.

This investment - part of a $27.3 million boost to rebuild and upgrade ambulance stations and purchase additional vehicles - will give local paramedics the modern and safer facilities they deserve, as well as the room they need to grow to meet the needs of our rapidly growing community Melbourne’s North-Eastern suburbs.

In the Victorian Budget 2016/17 the Labor Government invested $144 million to rebuild the ambulance system after four years of crisis and neglect under the former Liberal Government.

This includes our $60 million ambulance Response Rescue Fund to provide faster responses and make sure our ambulances respond to the right patient, at the right time, with the right care.
