Early train, tram and bus services will carry expected record crowds to the Shrine of Remembrance for the Dawn Service to commemorate 100 years since ANZAC forces landed at Gallipoli.
Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, today detailed public transport services for ANZAC Day, including services to the Shrine for the Dawn Service and to the MCG for the ANZAC Day clash between Essendon and Collingwood.
The 2015 Shrine Dawn Service will be held from 6am to 6.30am on Saturday 25 April 2015, and over 40 additional Metro train services starting from 3.50am will get attendees to the city prior to the commencement of the service.
Free shuttle buses will once again operate from a number of RSL locations. People using these services can book their seat at ptv.vic.gov.au or by calling 1800 800 007.
Veterans and War Widows can travel for free on Victoria’s public transport network on 24, 25 and 26 April, and free travel is also extended to Australian Defence Force members, Scouts, Guides and school students on Saturday 25 April.
Customers not eligible for free travel will pay the public holiday rate of just $6 with myki money for all day travel in Zones 1 and 2.
People attending ANZAC Day events are strongly advised to plan ahead and visit ptv.vic.gov.au/anzac2015 or call 1800 800 007 (6am to midnight daily) for information about public transport on ANZAC Day.
Due to the high numbers of people expected to attend the Dawn Service, customers are encouraged to allow sufficient time to get to the Shrine.
