Enhancing Interfaith Harmony And Social Cohesion

22 August 2019

Faith organisations are getting the support they need to do good things for the community as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Interfaith Community Fund.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Richard Wynne today announced $368,000 for community organisations to deliver projects supporting Victorians of many different faiths.

Funding will build the capacity of faith-based organisations, support new and emerging faith leaders and address family violence in faith communities.

Examples of successful projects include:

  • Training for faith leaders to identify and respond to family violence within their faith communities
  • A professional development program for teachers from schools in Shepparton to address discrimination and promote intercultural understanding
  • Educating and recruiting chaplains from Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh communities and the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic Churches.

Grants will also promote intercultural understanding and will address issues faced by asylum seekers and refugees, LGBTIQ people, women of all faiths, students and regional communities.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Multicultural Affairs Richard Wynne
