The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with the job of building new schools to meet the needs of the state’s growing population and ensure every Victorian child has access to a great quality education.
Minister for Education James Merlino has confirmed that construction on eight of the new schools announced in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 in growth areas will be fast-tracked.
The schools are expected to open for the beginning of the 2020 school year, and include:
- Beveridge West Primary School
- Botanic Ridge Primary School
- Casey Fields (Five Ways) Primary School
- Clyde North East Primary School
- Craigieburn South Secondary School
- Davis Creek Primary School
- Lucas Primary School
- Wyndham South (Riverwalk) Primary School.
The Labor Government this week advertised for Design & Construct Contractors to submit an Expression of Interest to carry out design completion and documentation, procurement, construction, commissioning and defect rectification for the eight new schools.
Kane Constructions has already been appointed to design and construct the other three schools being built under the New Schools 2020 Program, which are Armstrong Creek West Primary School, Keysborough South Primary School and Point Cook South Senior Secondary School.
The Labor Government has invested an unprecedented $3.8 billion in school infrastructure over the past four Budgets, to ensure it can continue to cater for the estimated 90,000 students who are expected to enter the school system over the next five years.
This school building boom has delivered more than 1,300 school upgrades and 70 new school projects across the state, supporting almost 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
We’re building the Education State to give every Victorian student a great education, and every community a great local school. In contrast, in 2016 not one new school opened because the Liberals failed to plan for our growing state. We won’t let that happen again.
