Design School Creates A New Future In Melbourne

03 May 2018

Future creative professionals can flex their artistic muscles at LCI Melbourne, the latest addition to the global LCI Education network.

The newly opened Collingwood institution offers a unique degree, the Bachelor of Design Arts, which is the first of its kind in Victoria and one of only two such specialist degrees being offered in Australia.

Offering courses across communication design, fashion and costume design, filmmaking and photography, graphic and digital design, visual arts, and interior design, students can study across fields as well as around the world at other LCI Education network campuses.

LCI Education traces its origins back to LaSalle College in Montreal, which was founded in 1959, and now has 23 campuses around the world including Barcelona, Jakarta, Vancouver and Costa Rico.

LCI network’s illustrious design alumni regularly work on Academy Award winning films and in 2013 Fashionista.com ranked LaSalle College amongst the world’s top 50 fashion schools.

The Andrews Labor Government has worked closely with LCI Education, helping the organisation find a suitable site and meet regulatory requirements, and is proud to support the next generation of creative professionals.

Melbourne is the natural home for a global design school, boasting a world-class creative industry that includes Docklands Film Studios, the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, Australia’s oldest art gallery in the NGV, Australia’s premier creative-tech-business festival PauseFest, and a thriving startup culture.

Victoria’s reputation as a premium higher education destination has seen the state’s total international student numbers grow by 15.2 per cent since 2016, outstripping the national average growth rate of 13 per cent.

Melbourne has been ranked as Australia's best student city, and top five in the world behind only Paris, Montreal, London and Seoul.
