Delivering New Homes For Victorians Who Need Support

14 May 2020

More Victorians escaping family violence, homelessness and life on the streets now have a stable home thanks to the Victorian Government.

Minister for Housing Richard Wynne today announced the latest tranche of funding through the Social Housing Growth Fund will deliver more than 780 new social housing dwellings across 25 locations in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The Fund was established by the Government in 2018, has created an investment pipeline for new social housing – with the dedicated billion-dollar fund to ensure there are more affordable homes for Victorians year-after-year.

Over the first five years of the fund, the Victorian Government will create up to 2,200 new dwellings and leases for people who need accommodation.

Eligible community housing organisations have access to low-interest loans in combination with the Social Housing Growth Fund, to help them deliver the big social housing developments Victoria needs.

New homes in Werribee and Doveton delivered by Aboriginal Housing Victoria are the first to be completed under this funding round and tenants are now making themselves at home in their new communities.

Construction of further social housing properties supported by the program are set to be completed throughout the year, including at Hampton Park, Grovedale, Mernda, Bundoora, and Thornbury.
