The Andrews Labor Government is delivering more diverse housing opportunities for purchasers in Melbourne’s east, with the first release of the Coomoora Springvale South residential development launching today.
The development provides options for people wanting to get on the housing ladder – with a range of homes below the median house price for Springvale South, in a well-established community that has access to community services, transport and schools like Keysborough Primary School.
Previously owned by the Department of Education, the site was declared surplus land in 2016 – and will be developed by the Labor Government’s property developer Development Victoria, delivering around 45 townhouses and 16 land-only lots.
The first sales release of seven land-only lots is set for Saturday 30 January, and opportunities to purchase townhouses will open in future releases. The development offers affordability for young families or first-time buyers, with prices for a townhouse expected to start around $550,000.
With the area’s population set to grow to 179,000 by 2024, this development provides homes for Victorians in one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing areas.
New residents will benefit from the Labor Government’s transport investments in the south-east, better connecting Greater Dandenong with $15 billion to upgrade the Cranbourne/Pakenham line – cutting travel times by up to 50 minutes per day, delivering bigger trains and creating a direct link to Melbourne Airport through the Metro Tunnel.
Coomoora has been designed with 20 per cent open space, to encourage community recreation and outdoor activities in the estate. Development Victoria will work with the City of Greater Dandenong to deliver and maintain these spaces which will enhance the area for many generations to come.
Throughout the planning process, Development Victoria consulted closely with the community and the City of Greater Dandenong – making sure the development was aligned with the local neighbourhood character and considered all the surrounding properties in its design.
Students from Keysborough Primary School were also included in the process, providing ideas for the open space areas and informing some potential environmental initiatives for the final design – and the students will continue to be involved as the development progresses.
