Cross-Border Campaign To Ensure Safety Of Mildura Workers

23 October 2015

Construction sites in the Mildura region will be visited by inspectors from both WorkSafe Victoria and SafeWork New South Wales next month to encourage better health and safety practices on both sides of the border.

The visits, which are part of an ongoing effort to promote construction safety in border towns along the Murray River, will take place from November 16-20.

Inspectors will be in the region as part of a joint project known as the Cross Border campaign, which has been set up by both regulators to educate the construction industry about the safety requirements in each state.

Minister for Finance Robin Scott today visited the Mildura riverfront precinct redevelopment site to support and discuss the campaign with locals.

The riverfront project, led by the Mildura-based King Construction Group, will connect the town to the river and create a unique space that has the potential to be a tourist destination. The redevelopment aims to keep Mildura as Victoria’s most significant inland river city.

While in Mildura, Minister Scott also promoted WorkSafe Victoria’s Health and Safety Week, which is currently being run in regional centres across the state. The event is designed to raise awareness and promote excellence and innovation in workplace health and safety.

Free seminars were held today in Mildura and Health and Safety Week concludes at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 28 October.
