Creating More Kinder Places In Melbourne’s North

01 March 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is ensuring more kids in Craigieburn get to kindergarten with the opening of a new state-of-the-art, relocatable building.

Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos today officially announced the new kindergarten at Newbury Child and Community Centre is ready for business, with an extra 66 four-year-old kindergarten places to be made available.

The relocatable is one of two being placed in Hume in 2018, providing up to 132 kinder places in total, and are brand new, purpose-built and designed specifically for preschool use.

The move meets the urgent demand for kindergarten places while permanent centres, such as the Greenvale West Child Integrated Community Centre, are being built.

Relocatable kindergartens will also be delivered to Wyndham in Melbourne’s West as part of a $4.25 million project, funded through the Labor Government’s Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution, to address the demands of rapid population growth in these two key areas.

The Labor Government has invested a record $76.4 million to build, expand and improve kinders across Victoria to ensure local families can continue to access great local kindergartens.

Hume families will also benefit from the Government’s $202.1 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, announced in the 2017/18 Victorian Budget.

This reform plan recognises the importance of providing families with strong support in early childhood, so kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.
