Creating An Even Safer Acland St Precinct

14 October 2019

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering major safety improvements to the popular St Kilda Acland Street precinct to keep local residents and visitors safe ahead of the busy summer season.

Minister for Crime Prevention Ben Carroll joined the Member for Albert Park Martin Foley in St Kilda today to announce recipients of the 2019-20 Safety Infrastructure Grants.

The City of Port Phillip is one of 14 Victorian councils sharing in a $1.8 million funding boost for public safety improvements including CCTV and lighting in public spaces.

The Labor Government will provide more than $63,000 towards the installation of two additional CCTV cameras along the Acland Street precinct to improve public safety and support local policing. The council will also contribute $20,000 towards the project.

The initiative comes after two previously funded projects worth $470,000, including the installation of 17 CCTV cameras along the Acland Street precinct and St Kilda foreshore. Council contribution was more than $186,000 towards these projects.

Other local communities will also benefit from major safety improvements at 15 locations across the state as part of the funding boost from the Labor Government.

The Public Safety Infrastructure Fund provides grants up to $250,000 to Victorian councils to improve community safety, security and confidence in public places.

Since 2015, the Labor Government has provided almost $13.6 million in Public Safety Infrastructure Fund grants to support 88 projects across Victoria.
