Continuing The Conversation With Barwon Locals

05 September 2017

Barwon locals have a chance to continue their conversation with the Andrews Labor Government, with community consultation leading up to the next Barwon Regional Assembly well underway.

Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford encouraged local residents to engage with the Barwon Regional Partnership ahead of its 2017 Regional Assembly, which will be held in Geelong on 14 September.

The Labor Government established nine Regional Partnerships last July, giving communities the opportunity to have their say on local matters and provide a direct voice into government decision-making.

Top priorities for the Barwon Regional Partnership included revitalising central Geelong, the Great Ocean Road visitor economy and digital learning for children and young people.

The Barwon Regional Partnership has already started seeing the results of its hard work, with the Labor Government announcing $11.7 million in upgrades for central Geelong and more than $500 million to improve regional roads, including the Great Ocean Road.

The region will also share in the $45 million Connecting Regional Communities Program to support digital initiatives, while schools in the region will be the first to receive new virtual conferencing systems.

The Barwon Regional Partnership includes the City of Greater Geelong, the Borough of Queenscliffe, Colac Otway Shire and Surf Coast Shire.
